Empowering children and young people to thrive…

Admissions

Admissions Process

At EmpowerEd, we understand how important it is to ensure that each young person is placed in a setting that truly meets their needs. That’s why our admissions process is careful, person-centred, and flexible.

Referrals and Enquiries
Referrals may come from parents or carers, schools, local authorities, or social care professionals. Families are welcome to contact us directly to discuss EmpowerEd and arrange an initial conversation or visit.

Information Gathering
When we receive a referral, we begin by gathering as much information as we can to build a full picture of the young person. This usually includes reading any reports provided (such as an EHCP, support plans, or educational records). Where possible, we will also speak with parents, carers, or professionals who know the young person well.

Assessment and Visits
We may invite the young person to visit, observe them in their current setting, or offer a taster session. These steps help us understand their strengths, support needs, communication style, sensory profile, and the kind of environment in which they are most likely to thrive. We also complete an initial risk assessment and begin to plan how transition could be supported.

Considering Suitability
We then consider whether EmpowerEd can safely and meaningfully meet the young person’s needs. This includes looking at:

  • Whether our environment, staffing and approach are a good match
  • Whether we can offer a curriculum that supports progress
  • Whether we can provide a positive and safe experience

Transition Planning
If we feel that we are a good fit, we will offer a place – either on a trial or ongoing basis. A personalised transition plan will be developed with input from the young person, parents/carers, the home school or local authority, and any relevant professionals. We provide accessible information, such as social stories or visual guides, to help each learner feel prepared and supported.

Safeguarding, Health and Data
Before starting, we ensure that safeguarding, health and safety, and medical needs are fully understood and planned for. This includes obtaining relevant consents (e.g. medication, trips, photo permissions). All information is handled in line with our Data Protection and Privacy Notice.

Ongoing Review
Placements are reviewed regularly with families, professionals, and the young person to ensure that EmpowerEd continues to be the right fit. If at any point we feel we cannot meet a learner’s needs, we will discuss this parents / carers and other relevant professionals.

Appeals and Concerns
If a place cannot be offered, reasons will be explained clearly. Families and professionals can raise concerns about the process through our Complaints Policy.

Our goal is to make sure that every young person we welcome is in an environment where they feel safe, valued, and able to thrive.
